Last week I wrote a post all about how to start a blog. I even included tips that other bloggers hardly ever write about and lessons I learned from some of my earliest mistakes. And this week we are going to talk about how to monetize your mom blog.

Why You Should Monetize Your Mom Blog

Who doesn’t want to make money, am I right? And the thing about blogging is that it truly has unlimited potential when it comes to income. Seriously, think about it. There is no one to put an earning cap on your blog.

Blogging gives you the opportunity to be creative, think outside the box, and create sustainable income beyond your wildest dreams. Some of the bloggers I have learned from earn more money in one month than I earned in one year (or two years, for that matter) as a teacher.

Can you imagine that??!!

Once you have followed my easy steps to get your blog set up it’s actually not that hard to monetize it. In fact, I think monetizing my blog was even simpler than starting it up! I’ve recently met my goal of earning enough money each month that my blog pays for itself.

And now I’m quickly growing into making extra income for my family!

Get Started Writing

The last step in my “how to start a mom blog” tutorial was to write, but it’s the first step here. Why?

Because once you have your blog all set up you’ll need plenty of great content on your site before you monetize it. Ad networks want to see that you have a genuine blog set up, not a money making scheme.

And if you plan to work with affiliates you’ll need content that’s high quality and ready to promote.

Include Certain Pages on Your Mom Blog

No matter your niche all blogs should have a few key pages:

  • An about me page, that details who you are and a little background about the blog
  • A way to contact you (this can just be an e-mail)
  • A privacy policy (this assures your reader that any information you collect is kept private, I found an online legal service to write one for me. It took about 5 minutes to enter all of my info and I think I paid less than $10)
  • An affiliate disclaimer (this is only if you’re working with an affiliate program, most bloggers do. I used the same legal service that I used for my privacy policy, it took less than 5 minutes and cost less than $10)

Use Pinterest to Drive Traffic

Originally I applied to Google Adsense, got accepted and had at least three ads per post. Plus ads in other places on my site. Google Adsense has a $100 minimum before you can start receiving payments.

Guess what?

One year later and I still haven’t surpassed that threshold AND my traffic started to increase when I took those ads off of most of my posts.

Now my strategy, and the strategy that I recommend following is to focus more on driving traffic to my site. No matter the ad network, you’ll only make income from ads if you have decent and consistent traffic. Wait until you have a decent amount of traffic and then apply to one of the ad networks that pays more per click.

I’m currently in the process of applying to MediaVine. They require a minimum of 25,000 sessions in 30 days before you can apply, and they pay much better per impression.

Grow Your E-mail List

One of the best ways to monetize your mom blog is to grow your e-mail list. Your e-mail subscribers will likely be your most loyal readers and are often the first to buy from you.

Having an e-mail list is a great way to build a better relationship with your readers, to show them a different side of who you are. You can share exclusive content with your e-mail list and get to know your audience. All of this makes it so much easier to market and sell later.

I highly recommend reading my post about why bloggers need an e-mail list and how to quickly grow your e-mail list, even as a new blogger!

Consider Affiliate Programs

I became an affiliate through Amazon right away. Their program is also very easy to sign-up for and they’re really transparent about how you earn money.

Honestly, I use Amazon ALL THE TIME anyway.I’ve had a Prime membership for years and I order all kinds of stuff through their site. So it made sense for me to work with them. It’s easy to get started, just Google “amazon affiliate program” and it should pop up right away. Just make sure you can make a sell within the first six months or they’ll drop you from the program.

There are many affiliate programs out there, make sure to promote products or services that you really believe in and use regularly. Your readers will see right through you if you are promoting things you don’t really love or use.

These are my affiliate programs that I promote for blogging specifically:

  • Bluehost: I’ve used them as my host for my blog since day one and I have been incredibly happy with the service. The price is very affordable and you can always upgrade as you grow.
  • Convertkit: I cannot stress to you how important it is to have an e-mail service provider. And don’t waste time with the free ones, you’ll just end up switching and from what I’ve heard it’s a complete nightmare. Get started out right with Convertkit, they provide affordable services, plenty of support, and an easy to use and intuitive platform, they are well worth the money.
  • Tasty Pins : Tasty Pins is the only paid plugin that I use and recommend. It has changed my blogging life! It makes sharing on Pinterest sooooo much easier, and believe me, you NEED it! Click here to read more about Tasty Pins and why I recommend it.

Use Your Mom Blog as a Platform to Sell Products

Maybe you create your own products or you are affiliated with a direct sales company. Either way, blogs are a great platform to sell products.

I recently became a consultant for Beauty Counter. Beauty Counter sells safer skin care products and make-up. I love the company and their mission, I’ve used the products for years so I signed up to be a consultant.

Now I’m working on different ways to sell the products through my blog and to my e-mail list! It’s really been a match made in Heaven!

Create Your Own Products and Services to Sell

This is how you take your mom blog and start earning sustainable income. By creating your own products and/or services.

This is something I’ve been working on for a while and I have my very first product launch coming in just a few short months!

If you are interested in being a part of my product launch then subscribe below to my e-mail list. I’ll be sending out updates, giving out exclusive content only to my subscribers, hosting giveaways, AND having a flash sale in the coming months!!
