Today I’m going to share with you the BEST homeschool advice I’ve ever received. Seriously, it was life changing.
And the best part is you can apply this to all areas of your life: homemaking, homeschooling, parenting, learning anything new.
Are you ready? Here it is:
Easy plus one.
That’s it.
Here’s what that means: start with whatever feels easy, then add one thing. When that feels easy (and consistent), you can add another thing.
Here’s an example:
If your family already has a solid routine of reading Scripture every morning after breakfast then that’s your easy. Now add one thing to that. Maybe you want to add in reading two poems after Scripture. Or singing a hymn. And when that routine becomes easy, you can add in something else.
The reason this has been so life-changing for me is because it’s all about laying a foundation. So many homeschool moms out there are struggling to maintain a consistent routine. But I think it’s because they jump into the deep end, head first, then everything feels hard.
That’s how I started. And it didn’t take long for the overwhelm to set it.
Then an experienced mom told me I was doing too much. “Easy plus one,” she said. It was the mom version of “one foot in front of the other.”
The only way you’ll ever get to that full homeschool schedule is to work toward it one bit at a time. Start with what feels easy, and add your plus one.
