A Little Bit of History & The Future of Forgotten Lattes

Blog· Uncategorized

Spread the love

When I started this mommy blog nearly ten years ago I had two main goals: help other moms like me and make an income for my family.

The first goal seemed easy enough to accomplish.

All I had to do was share all the little tips, hacks, tricks, tidbits…whatever you want to call them, that I was learning about motherhood. Like how I keep on top of laundry or stick to a weekly grocery budget. Plus, I wanted to share some humorous stories, because what’s stay-at-home-mom life without a little humor in the chaos?

The second goal – the earning the income goal- that was much harder to achieve. But I didn’t want to give up on it because we desperately needed the income. So I spent hours researching “how to make money blogging” and I found plenty to help me.

Most of the tips centered around optimizing each blog post for search engines. Which meant long posts (we’re talking close to 2,000 words EACH post, not the quick Facebook-status type posts I’d originally imagined); lots of keywords; and whole lot of fluff.

It meant hours of keyword research and creating Pinterest images. Then making sure each individual post checked all of the boxes on a twenty-point checklist I’d downloaded. It was honestly exhausting. And it didn’t take long before I gave up.

I didn’t post on this blog for several years. Clearly I didn’t have what it takes to “make it” as a blogger. Or so I thought.

But after a break, and focusing my energies elsewhere, I started to feel that deep down desire to write about motherhood. The same one that had pulled me towards blogging in the first place. I wanted to share the humorous parts of parenting, the life hacks I’ve picked up in the last ten years that help me thrive as a mom.

But this time I wanted to do it my way.

No search engine optimization. No long, fluffy blog posts with endless ads and links. Just simple posts that are meant to help you lighten your load and brighten your day.

I have faith that the people who need a blog like that will find Forgotten Lattes at just the right time.

If that’s you, then welcome.

I hope you find here encouragement, humor, motherhood based in faith, and maybe a few tips that will help you keep your sanity, catch up on sleep, and finish your coffee before it gets cold — or forgotten on the kitchen counter.
